On Saturday afternoon, an IDF tank fired a warning shot at a newly established Syrian military outpost that violated the demilitarized zone near the Druze village of Khader on the Syrian side of the border. The Syrian military outpost violated ceasefire agreements signed between Israel and Syria in 1974 prohibiting “the entry of heavy construction tools or military vehicles into the demilitarized zone.”

No Syrian casualties were reported.

The IDF reported the violation to the UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF)  stationed in the area who are responsible for overseeing the situation.

Khader has been caught in the Syrian civil war and two weeks ago, nine people from the village were killed by a car bomb. The Druze have close relatives living on the Israeli side of the border who protested for the Israeli government to step in and aid them. In a rare move, the Israeli government vowed to aid the Syrian Druze.

Last week, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israel would operate militarily in Syria in order to ensure his country’s security.
